As a part of July's Public Policy Session at the Salem Area Chamber of Commerce, consultant Richard Bjelland shared factual data about how population and demographic data continues to evolve in the State of Oregon and in Marion County specifically.
"There are some significant changes that are taking place these days," said Bjelland.
Bjelland's powerpoint presentation provided a great deal of statistical information from sources including the U.S. Census Bureau to paint a picture for the Chambe…

This is a question that I get asked once or twice a week. Here are 10 Reasons why you should have a website and how it can help your business grow and prosper!
1. A website with your own domain gives you credibility with your customers and prospective clients. Your website represents the professionalism of your business in many ways. For example, you will have an email address ending with your own domain name. Business e-mail addresses that end in hotmail.com, yahoo.com, or gmail.com gives the…

The Union Agenda
Senate working on card check compromise that includes “mail-in” ballot and maintains arbitration
The San Diego Union-Tribune reports on organized labor's highest legislative priority in Congress, the Employee Free Choice Act (card check) bill under which a union would be certified if 50 percent of the workers sign cards. Currently, a majority vote in a secret-ballot election is required in most cases. The article notes that Sen. Dianne Feinstein is getting squeezed…

First ... the State Legislature has not approved a funding level yet for public schools; however, we are required by law to have an adopted budget by June 30. This means the adopted budget approved on Tuesday night is based on our best estimate of the upcoming state public education funding level.
With that said ...
Salem-Keizer School Board approved the district's budget for 2009-10 last night. This adopted budget includes about $27 million in cuts. To balance the budget, reductions were made…

Campaign for Free Enterprise
According to the Washington Post, “Business has been on the ropes since last fall's financial collapse, but the first glimmerings of recovery are calling forth a capitalist counteroffensive. It's one thing for President Obama to face off against Fox News, the right-wing radio empire and Republican congressional leaders whose names are unfamiliar to much of the public. It's quite another to confront organized business. That's why last week's announcement…

Happy Fathersday!
I hope this adds a little more enjoyment to your day!
Everyone is familiar with the traditions that we all enjoy at weddings. One such tradition is tying things to the bumper, like cans, to make alot of noise and make it almost impossible for the bride and groom to slip away unnoticed! Well recently a young couple pulled into the shop complaining about a noise coming from the rear of their vehicle. We immediately noticed the shoe polish sign across the back window "JUST MARRIE…

Urban living in the heart of downtown Salem. A few years ago that was unheard of in this town. Today, the face of downtown Salem is changing. Urban living is here and it has much to offer. Two blocks from Bush Park and across the stree from Pringle Park is 295 Church Street Condominiums. Does $139,900 for a one bedroom, one bath, spacious with lots of natural light sound like a good deal?
There are two bedrooms, two bathroom units, some with fireplaces, all with granite countertops and stainles…
